Map Navigation & Thematic Layer Controls

Pan, zoom, switch basemaps, and toggle administrative boundaries on the GIS canvas.

The interactive map canvas is powered by OpenLayers GIS. It renders vector polygons representing village boundaries and highlights registered community institutions with distinct colored markers.

  • Zoom & Pan Controls: Use your mouse wheel, pinch-to-zoom on touch screens, or the floating + / - controls on the map.
  • Basemap Toggle: Toggle between detailed OpenStreetMap cartography and high-resolution satellite imagery using the layer control widget.
  • Fullscreen Mode: Click the fullscreen expand button on the toolbar for an uncluttered, edge-to-edge geospatial exploration experience.

Inspecting Village Institutions & Click Popups

Click any highlighted village polygon to reveal all registered Village Institutions.

Clicking anywhere on a highlighted village opens a clean, left-aligned information popup showing all institutions present within that village:

  • Institutional Summary: View institution name, registration ID, managing committee, and approval state.
  • Color-Coded Badges: Identifies the ecological resource type (Forest Commons, Pasture & Grazing, Water Commons, or Revenue Wastelands).
  • Full Card Clickability: Click anywhere on a card within the popup to immediately open the comprehensive institution details drawer.

Exploring the Institution Details Drawer

Examine community governance structures, executive rules, meeting records, and land tenure data.

The side drawer slides smoothly from the right edge of the screen, presenting a comprehensive profile of the selected Village Institution:

  • Location Breakdown: State, District, Block, Gram Panchayat, Village, and Habitation names.
  • Governance Metrics: Meeting frequency (monthly/quarterly), executive committee representation, women and youth participation, and customary by-laws.
  • Verification Status: Verified status badges displaying date of survey and administrative approval timestamp.

Alternating Between Map & Table Views

Search, filter, and sort tabular records of Village Institutions with quick pagination.

Use the view switch toggle above the map to alternate between geographic mapping and tabular records:

  • Map View: Interactive GIS visualization showing spatial footprints and boundaries.
  • Table View: Sortable, filterable list of institutions. A dedicated real-time search filter allows rapid lookup by name, village, or ID.
  • EXPLORE OTHER VIS: For field users, toggle between "My Submissions" and "All Approved Village Institutions" to cross-reference data across organizations.

Contributing Data: Adding a New Village Institution

How registered Field Users and Admins digitize community institutions and submit verification questionnaires.

Registered Field Users, Organization Admins, and Super Admins can contribute newly surveyed Village Institutions through the "Add new VI" button:

  • 1. Administrative Placement: Select the State, District, Block, Gram Panchayat, Village, and specific Habitation where the institution operates.
  • 2. Institution Profile: Enter the official local name of the committee (e.g., "Mataji Mandir Van Suraksha Samiti") and categorize its primary resource focus (Forest, Pasture, Water, or Wasteland).
  • 3. Governance Responses: Record community responses on rule making, penalty collection, meeting frequency, dispute resolution, and bank account details.
  • 4. Verification & Review: Submissions enter the Approvals Queue. The Super Admin reviews the survey details to verify data integrity before publishing to the public map.
Note for Organizations: If your organization would like to survey Village Institutions in your project areas, contact us to receive an Organization Admin account provisioned by our team.

Common questions about using the interactive map widget, searching records, and data accuracy.

Why is my newly created VI not visible on the public map immediately?

All newly submitted Village Institutions undergo an administrative quality and verification check in the Approvals Queue. Once approved by the Super Admin, the institution is immediately published to the live GIS map and public table.

Can this map widget be embedded on our organization's website?

Yes! The platform is architected as an embeddable widget (iframe or direct module) and can be configured for specific administrative boundaries (such as a single state, district, or project operational area) or specific thematic outcomes.

How do I export or download data for research and analysis?

Authenticated Organization Admins and Super Admins have access to the dedicated Downloads section in the navigation bar. Datasets can be exported in standardized Excel, CSV, and GIS vector formats.

How does "Set as Priority Area" work?

When a logged-in user searches for an administrative region and clicks "Set Priority Area", that region is stored in their user profile. Whenever they log in, the map will automatically center on that region, saving time for localized field operations.
